The city is located 100 km from Barreirinhas, access by asphalt. The travel time, without stops is approximately an hour and a half.

Several sights are worth a visit in Santo Amaro. The Lagoa da Andorinha, because it is one of the most beautiful of the Lençóis, is obligatory. Bethany, a village with ponds and rivers that gives access to Queimada dos Britos are also worth a visit. Further ahead is the Espigão, a section of dunes cut by the Alegre river in the middle of the forest, on the road between Santo Amaro and Barreirinhas.

The Alegre River cuts the city in several places where it is possible a delicious bath in its waters. Almost all the course of the river is calm, with clean waters, quite pleasant and produces a pleasant sensation of being carried by the gentle current.
