Caburé

Cabure lays on the right side of the Barra of Rio Preguiças for those going in the direction of the sea, a hamlet on a neck of land between river and sea. The distance between each other is less than 300 meters. The calm and clean waters of the Barra provide an excellent excuse for a bath.

When arriving at Cabure, especially coming from Tutoia, one has the impression of reaching the last frontier on earth, on the edge of the world, that there is nothing else after it, so rough and wild is the place. Electric light only by generator and until 10 at night, after that darkness reveals a star filled sky that bestows to whom contemplates it the precise dimension of the human being. It is amazing.

One of the most interesting walks in the region is trekking from Cabure to Vassouras, a tip of the Little Lençois that touches the Rio Preguiças. Beware though, this is only for the bravest and more adventurous, for it means a 7-hour walk and should never be done without the presence of a local experienced guide.

There is no problem should you decide staying a few days in this paradise, some comfortable inns may lodge you and there are small diners where it is possible to enjoy the excellent Maranhão's typical food, such as the delightful and traditional "crab chowder" a typical dish of the region that is a great crab producer. All that at very reasonable prices.
